Magsanay na tayo para sa sakuna

KADE-KADENANG trahedya ang tumama sa Japan. Lindol. Tsunami. Lamig. Nuclear plant radiation fallout. Kakapusan ng tubig, pagkain at gamot. Kawalan ng kur­yente, sasakyan at komunikasyon. Pero kung tutuusin konti lang ang namatay at malubhang nasugatan sa kanila. Ito’y dahil malumanay at disiplinado ang tugon nila sa sakuna. At bakit gan’un ang naging kaisipan nila? Kasi matagal na at malimit silang nag-e-ensayo para sa sakuna. Alam na nila — bata, matanda, babae, lalaki — kung ano ang kani-kanilang gagawin.

Dapat pamarisan ang asal ng Hapones. Hindi puwede ang Bahala-Na attitude ng mga Pilipino. Dapat salubungin natin ng pagsasanay ang natural at man-made disasters. Taun-taon tayo tinatamaan ng dalawang dosenang bagyo. Dulot nito ang baha at mudslides. Tuwing Marso 500 sunog­ ang naitatala ng mga bumbero. Maraming nawawalan ng tirahan, at naiimpekta sa sugat-sunog. Halos 400 lindol ang rumerehistro sa seismographs araw-araw. Bagamat karamihan ay sobrang hina, mapag-pinsala ang ilang malalakas. Nagbubunsod ng pagtumba ng kabahayan at gusali.

Dalawa ang obvious na dapat gawin. Sa natural disasters, dapat planuhin natin ang mga tamang hakbang. Sa man-made disasters — sunog, banggaan sa kalye o dagat, atbp. — dapat mag-ingat na iwasan. Kailangan ng regular na earthquake, fire at flood drills sa mga opisina, pabrika, paaralan, barangay, at bahay. Bawat pamilya ay dapat magtabi ng first-aid kit.

Tungkulin pamunuan ang mga ito ng barangay officials­, school principals, office at factory managers, at padre/madre de pamilya. Kumbaga sa Boy Scout, dapat Laging­ Handa.

Then unexpectedly, a friend who had heard about my situation somehow, without even being asked, sent me a cheque to cover the cost of the repairs. What made this more amazing was that I had only know her for a few months! In the accompanying letter she explained that when she had been my age someone had helped her out of a difficult situation - now it was her turn to help someone else. Danny Seigle, Dondon Hontiveros, Dorian Peña, and Paul Artadi traded to the Express
for Al-Hussaini, Nonoy Baclao and Rey Guevarra.
 Although this is part of  the business of Professional Sports,
players being traded to other teams somehow have saddening impact
to the diehard fan of the involved player.
With regards to SMB, a trade they made in the 90's betrayed
their slogan "Iba Ang May Pinagsamahan"
when they traded Alvin Teng to Pepsi.
And they seemed to have done it again here in this case considering the fact
that Danny and Dondon have been part of their recent Championships.
Sana pinaabot na sila ng retirement sa SMB.
So with this trade, the 3 Danny's of SMB have finally gone separate ways leaving Danny Ildefonso with the Beermen.

They died for the murder of Sir Edmund William Godfrey...husband, father, pharmacist...and all-around gentleman resident of
Greenberry Hill, London. 
He was murdered by three vagrants
whose motive was simple robbery.
They were identified as...

Stanley Berry...
and Daniel Hill.
The three men move in on Sir Edmond and knife him to death,
stealing his money and jewelry in front of … … …

there is the story of a fire --- the FIRE DEPARTMENT AIR TANKER water that it took to contain the fire...
and a scuba diver named Delmer Darion.

The fire is out and the FOUR FIREFIGHTERS are walking through as they survey the area, they found Delmer Darion IN SCUBA GEAR hanging high in the tree.  

Delmer Darion, employee of the Nugget Hotel and Casino, Reno, Nevada...
engaged as a blackjack dealer.
Well-liked and well-regarded as a physical, recreational,and sporting sort...
Delmer's true passion was for the lake. 

 As reported by the coroner,
Delmer died of a heart attack somewhere between the lake and the tree...  

but most curious side note... 
is the suicide the next day of Craig Hansen...
volunteer fire-fighter, estranged father of four and a poor tendency to drink. 

Mr. Hansen was the pilot of the plane that accidentally
lifted Delmer Darion out of the water. 

Added to this, Mr. Hansen's tortured life met before with Delmer Darion
just two nights previous……
where a drunk and obnoxious CRAIG HANSEN, SPITS and PUNCHES at Delmer Darion's FACE for the cards he's been dealt. 

The weight of the guilt...
and the measure of coincidence so large...
Craig Hansen took his life.
